Blackheath Fireworks 2025

📰 The Hyperlocal News to Know

Greenwich Council is investing £5 million to tackle fly-tipping across the borough. The initiative includes deploying additional enforcement officers, installing more CCTV cameras, and offering rewards to residents who assist in prosecuting offenders. This move aims to address the estimated 841 tonnes of illegally dumped waste collected annually, which costs taxpayers over £800,000 each year. Council leaders emphasize that fly-tipping is both a criminal act and an environmental issue, and they are committed to making it more difficult for perpetrators to avoid detection.

The Blackheath Fireworks display is returning after a six-year hiatus, set for Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM at Blackheath Common. Organized by Lewisham Council in partnership with Slammin Events, the event will feature a spectacular fireworks show, live music by DJ Spoony and the Heavy Beat Brass Band, immersive gameshow "Famous First Words," singalong Massaoke, stand-up comedy from Big Belly Comedy Club, and over 30 independent food and drink stalls. Ticket prices are £16 for adults, £10 for youths (11–15), £5 for children (0–10), with family bundles available. While previously free, the 2025 edition introduces an entry fee to support the event's return.

Greenwich Foot Tunnel in southeast London has been named one of the city’s most haunted locations, ranking eighth on a list compiled by Kent-based company Choose Leisure. The tunnel, which opened in 1902 to connect Greenwich with the Isle of Dogs, earned its reputation due to numerous ghostly reports, including sightings of a Victorian couple, phantom footsteps, whispers, and sudden temperature changes. Stretching 370 metres beneath the Thames and historically significant, including partial damage during World War II, the tunnel’s eerie atmosphere, flickering lights, and echoing sounds make it a popular spooky destination for Halloween and ghost enthusiasts.
