This is a quick one. Instead of our usual events, we want to take a moment to highlight some organizations helping our community this holiday season.

If you’re looking for ways to give back over Christmas, check out these organizations below.

And a special thank you to the nearly 2,000 strong community members who are now a part of The S.E. London. We look forward to giving you all the best events, family activities, food, concerts and news from your neighbourhood in 2026.

Have a happy Christmas and see you next year!

🎄 Give back this season

  • Crisis at Christmas
Focused on ending homelessness, every Christmas Crisis sets up day centres and hotels where people in need can go for food, rest, companionship, and services. From their site: “Last Christmas, over 600 people stayed in our hotels, 74 received one-to-one support, and more than half left without returning to the streets.” This year, one of their hotels is in Docklands. They’re still looking for volunteers.

  • Santa’s Sleigh at the Basket Brigade
Delivering baskets of food to those in need this Christmas, Basket Brigade’s big event is today. However, there is still time to register to as Santa’s Sleigh. Tomorrow, they need volunteers to make drop-offs with their car. 1,000 to 1,500 baskets of food are delivered every year. Sign up to be part of Santa’s sleigh team.

  • Support families in need with MammaKind
Supporting families with children under 5 specifically in South East London, there are a number of ways you can support. Through volunteering or donations, which will continue in 2026, this is an incredible organization to become a part of. Check out the list of items that are needed. Maybe you have some laying around.

🍽️ Free meals in Lewisham

  • Free Caribbean meals at Cummin’ Up, in partnership with Taste Soul Good
For the 18th year in a row, Cummin’ up is giving out free meals on Christmas day to anyone who needs. From 1pm-6pm, you can head to 389 Lewisham High Street SE13 6NZ for turkey, jerk chicken, roast potatoes, rice and peas. If anyone you know could use a free meal on Christmas Day, pass this on.

If you haven’t already, we would so appreciate it if you could take a moment to fill out our survey and let us know what you'd love to see featured.
